In 2014, I was in a serious car accident. At the time I felt fine, but I wasn’t. I had suffered a concussion and had a serious hip injury. Over time, I experienced memory loss, pain in my body, and eventually had to have surgery. I just kept moving forward wanting my body to be the same as before. My mind wanted to keep exercising at the same level, however my body did not. Of course, I tried to maintain what I could and had many ups and downs over the next six years. Eventually I figured out that I needed a new focus physically and spiritually.

First, I realized the power I have within myself to take charge of my life. I stepped down from teaching spinning, Pilates and other high impact classes that irritated me. By believing in myself and taking control of my life, I was able to learn other activities that I could perform to live my healthiest life. This is how I found activities such as walking, low impact exercises, and eventually, yoga practice. I therefore continued to stay in shape and found my inner awareness. Never give up!

“If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." Mark 9:13.

Second, I reached out to God and found the song Thy Will by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family which touches my heart deeply and inspired me to follow God’s will. I was unhappy and emotionally struggling with myself throughout my recovery. However, I eventually began to practice daily prayer and meditation which renewed my life. I now schedule it in my day for one hour in which I read something positive, listen to motivational podcasts, journal, pray and meditate. When I do this and follow His will, all seems to fall into place. Follow God’s will!

When you feel frustrated with your fitness or wellness, take it one day at a time. Go a little further week by week. Find power within yourself and seek a higher power! Have faith! You got this!
